Nant Gwynant is a picturesque valley in Snowdonia, which has several footpaths meandering up to the summit of Snowdon. In particular, the Watkin footpath has historical interest. Sir Edward Watkin was a Victorian entrepeneur who retired to a chalet in Cwm y Llan in the 1800s. It was Sir Edward Watkin who created the first dedicated footpath in Great Britain. Such footpaths like the Watkin path opened up the countryside to everyone.

Interestingly, in the area where the Watkin path was built, was also where commandos practiced during the Second World War. To this day, pockmark scars can still be observed on ruined buildings.

Because of a north easterly airstream, the views from the summit of Snowdon were remarkable.
